The United States policy in the Middle East will be outlined by Robert D. Murphy, U. S. Deputy Under Secretary of State, at the annual dinner of the Joint Distribution Committee which will be held next Thursday, it was announced here today by Edward M. M. Warburg, JDC chairman.
The dinner will be held in connection with the JDC’s 42nd annual meeting which will be attended by delegates from Jewish communities throughout the country. The delegates will also be addressed by Moses A. Leavitt, JDC executive vice-chairman, who recently returned from a tour of Europe and Israel, where he made a survey of the health and welfare needs of the Jews living there.
The plans and the budget of the JDC for 1957 will be presented at the meeting for approval. Last year, the JDC provided health, welfare, emigration, cultural and religious facilities and services to 166,900 men, women and children in 25 countries of Europe, North Africa and the Near East, including Israel. JDC’s programs are financed with funds raised in the annual, nationwide campaigns of the United Jewish Appeal.
