Folkshtimme, the Yiddish-language Warsaw daily which for the past ten years has been an official organ of the central committee of the Communist Party in Poland, announced in an issue received here today that, henceforth, it will be an organ representing the views and interests of the entire Jewish community of Poland.
In a front-page statement, the editors of the newspaper said that “in this historical moment of great changes in Poland and in the life of the Jewish population,” the paper must serve the entire community, representing the thoughts and feelings of all the Jewish people and serving as the tribune of the Jewish community.
Last week, the newspaper caused something of a sensation when it published an editorial expressing solidarity with Israel and demanding an end to the persecution of the Jews in Egypt.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
