The Jerusalem municipality, by a vote of 11 to 9, banned today the breeding of pigs and sale of pork in the Israeli capital and its environs.
The council overrode a suggestion by Mayor Gershon Agron which would have permitted special licenses to sell pork products. Representatives of the General Zionists, Herut and WIZO joined with religious councillors to carry the day against Mapai, Mapam, Achdut Avodah and Progressive representatives.
