TEL AVIV (Mar. 11)
More than 70 percent of the 100,000 immigrants expected to enter Israel this year will come from European countries, Dr. Nahum Goldmann, Jewish Agency president, declared last night at a session of the 13th convention of the Women’s International Zionist Organization. He noted that the unexpected migration of European Jews presented Israel with additional problems, since they were used to a relatively high standard of living.
Citing a statement by Premier David Ben Gurion that Israel expected its security situation to ease up for the next three years as a result of the Sinai campaign, Dr. Goldmann called on the Zionist movement to use this time to intensify immigration and absorption work. He stressed that more than the regular fund-raising campaigns would be needed.
