A new Gallup poll on the issue of religion in Canadian public schools shows little change in public attitudes during the past 13 years with half of all Canadians continuing to favor such teaching, it was reported today.
The National Joint Public Relations Committee of the Canadian Jewish Congress and B’nai B’rith said public opinion on the issue had remained “strikingly static, ” despite long debate. Citing a similar poll made in 1944, the Joint Committee said that in addition to the 50 per cent in favor reported in both surveys, 42 per cent supported leaving such teaching to churches and eight per cent were undecided.
