Price Boost on Cement Expected to Replace New Tax on Israelis

An Israel Cabinet discussion of a new tax on construction, to finance immigrant housing, was followed today by a Government order boosting the price of Israel-produced cement from 84 to 87 and one-half pounds per ton.

The higher prices, effective today, were expected to yield an additional 10, 000, 000 pounds annually in surcharges. The anticipated additional tax revenue was interpreted to mean the cancellation of the projected construction tax plan.
