Israel’s victory in the war of 1948 when it had only a “handful of soldiers” and its lightning success in the Sinai campaign enhanced the prestige of the Jewish State and of Jews throughout the world, according to Henry Morgenthau, former Secretary of the Treasury and one-time head of both the United Jewish Appeal and the Israel Boni Organization.

Mr. Morgenthau who plans to visit Israel in March refused to comment when asked whether he thought the United States would come to Israel’s aid if that state were attacked. He asserted that he had no fears for Israel’s future.
