Canadian Government Names Jewish Diplomat As Ambassador to Belgium

The appointment of Sydney David Pierce as Canadian Ambassador to Belgium was announced here today by the Ministry for External Affairs. Mr. Pierce is the first Canadian Jew to serve as an Ambassador.

Previously, Mr. Pierce served as Canadian envoy in Brazil and Mexico. He also held the post of special assistant to the Undersecretary of State for External Affairs and was a member of the Canadian delegation to the United Nations.
