Gov. Robert F. Meyner of New Jersey received the 1958 Jewish Labor Committee Award here last night “for his devotion to the cause of civil rights.” The award was given to him at the fourth labor conference on civil rights, held here this week-end by the Jewish Labor Committee of Chicago, with the endorsement of the Chicago Federation of Labor and the Cook County CIO Council.
Among the speakers at the conference was U.S. Sen. Paul H. Douglas, who declared that last week’s election results have given the next Senate session “a mandate to push the fight for an all-out civil rights program.”
