A fine of 17,000 deutschemarks was asked today by the prosecutor against Walter Funk, Minister for Economic Affairs and president of the Reichsbank in the Hitler regime, in denazification proceedings in which Funk was charged with contributing economically to the outbreak of World War II.

Among the economic programs carried out under Funk’s aegis was the looting of property owned by Jews in Germany and, later, in the occupied countries. The Reichsbank also acted as depository for the enormous quantities of jewels and gold–including caps taken out of the mouths of murdered men and women–which had once belonged to Jews.
