Technion Enrollment Highest in History; Reaches Total of 2,344 Students

Academic enrollment at the Technion on full university level this year reached a total of 2,344 students, the highest figure in the history of the Institute, it was announced here today. Not included in the total are the 800 students at the Technical High School affiliated with the Technion, or the men and women from all parts of the country registered for extension courses. The latter total is expected to exceed 4,000 this year.

The enrollment figure shows a sizeable increase also in the number of students for higher degrees in the Technion Graduate School. This year there are 232 candidates for master’s degrees, and 69 candidates for doctorates. The faculty with the largest enrollment is mechanical engineering, followed by electrical engineering, civil engineering and chemistry-chemical engineering.

In 1948 there were only 676 undergraduate students and two research students at the Technion. In addition to the faculties mentioned, the Technion provides instruction also in architecture, agricultural engineering, sciences, aeronautical engineering, industrial and management engineering, metallurgy, mineral engineering and general studies.
