Israel has applied officially for membership in the General Agreement on Traffic and Trade (GATT) and the application will be considered at the 14th annual meeting of GATT in Geneva on May 11, an Israel Foreign Ministry spokesman said today.
The 37 GATT Members accord each other most-favored nation status and bar trade discrimination in imports and exports with provision for arbitration of trade disputes. Israel hopes GATT membership will help to expand trade relations.
