The Canadian Government has rescinded an order-in-council Which limited sponsored immigration to immediate relatives and established priorities for certain categories of skilled workers. It was reported that the Department of Immigration will undertake a complete review of the Immigration Act and will submit a number of amendments to Parliament.
Meanwhile, administrative procedures to deal with the backlog of 74,000 immigration applications, all sponsored by relatives residing in Canada, have been stepped up. Qt the total, 3,400 are applicants from Israel.
Immigration department officials have said immigration agencies and organizations working with new Canadians would be consulted in the Department’s study of entry law revisions.
