The British Government has made representations to Iraq against the blacklisting by that country of Imperial Chemicals Industries. Ltd., giant British concern, because it had dealings with the State of Israel, a government spokesman disclosed today.
John Profumo, Minister of State, told the House of Commons that the British had been aware that Iraq had been contemplating such action and had made representations before the ban was imposed.
Denis Healey, a Labor M. P., asked the Government to withdraw authority for shipment of arms to Iraq by British firms which were also shipping arms to Israel, He said export of arms to Iraq was “quite contrary to British interests. “
