The United Hias Service announced today it had joined Protestant, Catholic and other voluntary service groups in support of World Refugee Year, which begins July 1. The decision was approved at a meeting of the executive committee which lauded United States Government officials for taking leadership in a concerted campaign to accelerate aid to millions of refugees.

The United Hias Service resolution expressed the hope that the United States would revise its basic immigration laws as part of its contribution to World Refugee Year. Leaders of the organization participated in the recent White House conference convoked by President Eisenhower in connection with the American plans for World Refugee Year.

The Synagogue Council of America, whose representatives also attended the White House parley, today issued a request on behalf of its constituent organizations to 2,500 rabbis throughout the United States for maximum participation in the observance of World Refugee Year. Each rabbi is being asked to schedule at least one sermon before July 1 on World Refugee Year, and on the need for more public and private aid for the refugees who are still in need of assistance.
