The Michigan Corporation and Securities Commission has issued a broad ruling, effective August 14, aimed at ending such discrimination in housing sales as was revealed in a recent hearing on a “point system” for rating prospective buyers of homes in the swank Grosse Point suburb of Detroit.
Under the ruling, announced by Corporation and Securities Commissioner Lawrence Gubow, the state would have authority to revoke the licenses of real estate brokers found guilty of such discrimination. The ruling will apply to brokers and salesmen who discriminate against home buyers on the basis of race, religion or national origin. Its effective date will be preceded by a public hearing.
