Talmud Torahs and other Jewish schools throughout Algeria celebrated this week the 100th anniversary of the Alliance Israelite Universelle. The Talmud Torah schools have been a major bulwark against assimilation here. A meeting marking the Alliance centennial was held in one of the city’s major halls.
A new Jewish cultural center was formally opened today in Perregaux, The center, which was set up by the Jewish Committee for Social Studies in collaboration with the World Jewish Congress, will serve the educational and cultural needs of the city’s Jewish community.
