A call for “reconsideration of the Jewish problem in Morocco,” was issued today by the Istiqlal party, the dominant political party in Morocco. The call was issued in connection with an alleged visit to Northern Morocco last week of the Israel Consul at Gibraltar.

Published in Al Alam, official organ of the party, the call asserted that Jews were “different” from others of Moroccan nationality. Al Alam has been repeatedly charging that the Jewish cultural organizations in Morocco are linked with Zionism. The campaign against the Moroccan Jews has been going on in the Istiqlal newspaper for more than a week.

Reports published here today state that five young Jews who had been arrested by the Moroccan police for distributing leaflets in the Jewish section of Casablanca have left Morocco and are now on their way to Paris.

The five Jews were detained in widespread arrests of Jews following the visit of President Nasser of the United Arab Republic to Casablanca. Unconfirmed reports said they had been subjected to severe beatings while they were in prison.
