A broad, scientific study of the social, economic, cultural and religious characteristics of the Jewish population of this city as well as of : Monroe County, which includes Rochester’s metropolitan area, has been completed here, and is now being prepared for issuance, it was announced today by Garson Meyer, chairman of the Rochester Jewish Community Council’s Jewish Population Study Committee.
Under the supervision of professionals, with the aid of scores of volunteers, and with the cooperation of 35 Jewish agencies, congregations and affiliates, master lists of the county’s entire Jewish population were prepared for the study, Mr, Meyer said. Out of the master list, 700 families including 2,000 persons were interviewed. The survey, said Mr. Meyer, should result in a detailed breakdown, providing the vital information needed for “sound, intelligent, social planning by social agencies, congregations and other Jewish institutions.”
