Former President Eisenhower today praised the work of the American Council for Judaism “in furthering understanding of traditional American principles. ” The former President was one of a group of public figures extending greetings to the 18th annual conference of the anti-Zionist group, convened here today. Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson expressed the hope, in a message, that the group’s work would be for “the betterment of our nation as a whole.”

At the same time the American Zionist Council issued a fact sheet, noting that the American Council for Judaism had been “repudiated by all three branches of American Judaism,” contrary to the group’s contention that it was “representative of a valid interpretation of Judaism. ” The AZC reminder cited official statements opposing the policies of the Council for Judaism issued by the Orthodox Rabbinical Council of America; the Conservative Rabbinical Asembly; and the Central Conference of American Rabbis, Reform.
