The West German Federal High Court handed down a decision today ruling that the heirs and families of the thousands of Jewish refugees who were lost when the British transport ship Arandora Star was sunk by a German U-boat in July 1940, are entitled to compensation in accordance with the Federal compensation law.

Most of the Jewish refugees were men who had been separated from their families and were on their way to Canada when the ship was torpedoed. All of the ship’s passengers were lost.
