Sir Adolph Basser, Australia’s greatest philanthropist, died in Sydney today at the age of 78. His contributions to charity in the past 15 years have been estimated at 1,000,000 pounds sterling ($2,800,000.)

Born in Krakow, Poland, he came to Australia when he was 20. He was knighted in 1962 for philanthropic services. He had made large contributions to Jewish causes,
