United Nations military observers today concluded their investigation of the Syrian-Israel border incidents of last weekend, which led to complaints to the Security Council by both governments, a UN spokesman announced here.
The spokesman said the report was being submitted today to Lt. Gen. Odd Bull, chief of staff of the UN Truce Supervision Organization, who was expected to draft a report for UN Secretary-General U Thant within the next few days.
Meanwhile, it was reported today that Syrian gun posts on the northern border fired machinegun bullets at an Israeli patrol again yesterday. An Israel army spokesman said there were three bursts of fire. He reported no casualties.
At the same time, it was announced that a fourth Israeli had died as a result of the border fighting between Syria and Israel last weekend. The man died of wounds received in the Syrian attack. Three other Israelis had been reported killed earlier. In addition, the casualties included 10 Israelis wounded.
A number of active members of an illegal Arab organization, “El Ard,” were arrested in Israel today on charges of having made contacts with foreign agents. The arrests were made on the basis of information furnished by Lebanese and Syrian agents captured by Israel during the past three weeks.
