Sen. George Murphy, California Republican, today called on chairman J.W. Fulbright of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, to help bring forth a favorable committee report on the Ribicoff resolution, condemning Soviet anti-Semitism “at the earliest possible time.”
Sen. Murphy cited the new State Department position favoring adoption of the resolution. He noted that the measure was killed last year partially because of State Department opposition. He urged that the resolution be accorded “appropriate hearing” by the committee and said recent disclosures about Soviet treatment of Jews are “shocking and intolerable.”
An identical resolution has been introduced in the House. Hearings are expected to begin soon in the House.
