Council for Judaism Members Express Regret to King Faisal

Download PDF for this date

Three members of the anti-Zionist American Council for Judaism paid a visit here last night to King Faisal of Saudi Arabia and expressed regret over the fact that Mayor John V. Lindsay and Governor Rockefeller canceled arrangements with the king for his remarks in Washington that Jews supporting Israel were his “enemies.” The three who visited the king at his suite in the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel were Rabbi Elmer Berger, executive vice-president of the Council, Benjamin Friedman and Alfred Lillienthal.

At the same time, however, Richard Korn, president of the Council, disavowed a statement made earlier by Mr. Lillienthal, who had said that Mayor Lindsay should be impeached for canceling a scheduled, formal New York City dinner in the king’s honor. Mr. Korn said that Mr. Lillienthal had not spoken in the name of the Council but had spoken “only for himself.”
