Scores of Zionist leaders, Jewish Center workers and members of Jewish youth groups today voiced enthusiasm over a special exhibit, entitled “Four Thousand Years of Jewish History,” which opened at the Jewish Agency building in New York. According to Prof. Marie Syrkin, head of the Jewish Agency’s information department, and William Levine, director of the department, the display is a “preview for organizational and congregational leaders.”
“We hope,” they said, “to interest them in bringing the exhibit to their own groups, utilizing it as the focal point of an Israel Week which will include a variety of cultural events including lectures, musical programs and panel discussions.” Mrs. Rose L. Halprin, chairman of the Jewish Agency-American Section, said the Agency is prepared to cooperate in making talent available for such Israel Week programs.
The exhibit was originated by Emil Weitz, who has coordinated similar displays elsewhere in this country as well as in Europe and Israel. The exhibit includes many archeological artifacts, some of them 2, 000 and 4, 000 years old, continues through Jewish life in the years of Jewish dispersal, and culminates with displays illustrating life in Israel today.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
