Brig. Gen. S.L.A. Marshall, the noted military commentator, told the opening session of the 20th biennial national convention of Pioneer Women here today that there would be a “modus vivendi” between Israel and the Arab states within the next six months. He said that the Arab states which bordered directly on Israel were in such a state of dissolution politically, economically and militarily, that their war-making potential was virtually non-existent. He added that, short of some big power intervention, he felt there would be no resumption of hostilities in the Middle East in the foreseeable future.
A “Declaration to the State of Israel,” read at the opening session, called for the United States to exert its influence to secure a Middle East settlement which insures Israel’s right as an independent nation and to aid in the resettlement of the refugees in that area.
Almost 600 women are taking part in the convention, which celebrates the 48th year of the Pioneer Women organization in this country.
