The first group of Egyptian citizens from the Gaza Strip and the northern sector of the Sinai Desert was repatriated by Israel to Egypt today under an agreement reached in Cairo by representatives of the International Red Cross. Today’s group was composed of about 600 Egyptians. They were sent back to Egypt across the Suez Canal.

Under the pact, several thousand Egyptians from the Strip and Sinai will be sent back to Egypt. Israeli authorities here noted that the repatriation agreement is being implemented “unconditionally, and out of humanitarian considerations.”
