Foreign Ministry officials indicated today that Israel will ask the British Government to reverse a decision to cancel the British Broadcasting Corp. (BBC) Hebrew broadcasts to Israel. The decision, which was announced last week in the House of Commons Just before a recess, touched off sharp criticism among Members of the British Parliament and Jewish organizations. The cancellation was scheduled to become effective in October.

The officials here said that no similar cancellation or even curtailment of BBC overseas broadcasts in Arabic were planned, a fact which cast doubts on the official explanation of budgetary difficulties as the reason for the action. It was indicated that Israel considered the cancellation as being of a political and no economic character and therefore having no justification.
