‘student Struggle for Soviet Jewry’ Begins Drive Toward Establishing Storefronts

An organization calling Itself the “Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry” today started a doorbell-ringing campaign in Jewish neighborhoods to solicit support and funds for a campaign to oppose the cultural and religious repression of Soviet Jews. According to Jacob Birn-baum. spokesman for the group, 250 student volunteers will visit 10,000 homes in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn to distribute kits calling attention to the plight of USSR Jews. The funds collected will go toward establishing “Soviet Jewry storefronts” in Jewish neighborhoods throughout the city, he said.
