Some 20,000 persons, among them Israel’s chief dignitaries, attended the funeral yesterday of the renowned Talmudist, Rabbi Joseph Kahanemann, who headed the Ponevez Yeshiva in Bnai Brak near here. He had transferred the yeshiva to Israel from Lithuania after World War II. Among those present were Cabinet members, Israel’s chief rabbis, heads of yeshivot and deans of rabbinical courts, the army’s chief chaplain and many others.
Meanwhile, Amos de Shalit, the noted Israeli nuclear scientist who died this week at 43, was buried in Rehovot, where he worked and. Cabinet members, scientists, members of the Knesset, and the Weizmann Institute staff and many academicians were present.
