Israeli Jets Attack Egyptian Military Targets; Israel Soldier Killed, One Wounded

Israel Air Force jets attacked Egyptian military targets in the southern and central sections of the Suez Canal zone for an hour yesterday evening and returned safely to their bases. Israel Army Pvt. Joseph Bergmann, 10, of Raanana, was killed and another soldier was wounded by Egyptian gunfire in the canal zone yesterday afternoon. Four Israel Army positions in the southern and central sectors of the Golan Heights were hit by bazooka and small arms fire yesterday. The fire was returned. There were no Israeli casualties. Jordanians fired mortar shells at Kibbutzim Ashdod Yaacov and Gesher in the northern Beisan Valley last night, sending settlers to their bomb shelters, but no casualties were reported. Slight damage was sustained by the electric generator at Gesher. Several Katyusha rockets were fired from Jordanian territory last night in the direction of the Timna copper mines in the Negev. The fire was returned and there was no interruption of work at the mines and no casualties were reported.
