Two Israelis died and seven were injured last night as the result of guerrilla activities. Two soldiers were killed and four others wounded when an army position in the Mount Hermon area was attacked by a terrorist gang and shelled by mortars. There were no reports of guerrilla casualties. Killed in the guerrilla action was Corporal Pinhas Bashkin, 22, of Tel Aviv and Private Raphael Cohen, 24, of Jerusalem. In Nathanya, the center of Israel’s diamond industry and a seashore resort, three residents were injured when a bomb exploded in a parking lot in the center of town. The injured, two men and a woman, were released from the hospital this morning. The bomb had been placed in an open pickup truck which was parked in the lot in the middle of the resort’s hotel area.
This morning a second, unexploded bomb was found in a car near the site of the explosion. The bomb consisted of an explosive charge attached to a Japanese-made clock and a plastic explosive activator. The bomb had been set to go off 45 minutes after the first explosion. Four suspects are being held by the police in their continuing investigation. Yesterday the bodies of four Arab terrorists, members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, were found in a grove in the Gaza Strip. One of them was identified as a senior commander. It is believed the men were killed as a result of an internal conflict in the terrorist movement. Grenades were tossed at Israeli civilian vehicles in Gaza yesterday. No injury or damage was caused. Israeli Airforce planes attacked terrorist bases in Jordan opposite the Beisan Valley for 90 minutes today, after Israeli settlements in the valley had been attacked by Katyusha rockets earlier in the morning. All planes returned safely.
