Official circles here could not confirm reports circulating in Western countries that Soviet warplanes intended for Egypt are based in Algeria. According to the reports the Russians’ purpose is to conceal the number and type of aircraft they are supplying to Egypt. The Israeli circles said that if the reports are true, the Soviets would have achieved their strategic goal of outflanking the southern periphery of NATO from Spain to Turkey.
