Sen. Robert Taft Jr., Republican of Ohio, told the Women’s Division of the United Jewish Appeal of Greater Washington yesterday that the Soviet Union’s policy, despite its denials, is aimed at the obliteration of the Jewish community and culture in that country. “As long as these injustices persist, I pledge you that my voice will join those who speak out on this cause.” Taft declared. Critical of an imposed peace in the Middle East, Taft said; “We must recognize that if Israel is to have security from aggression, she must have militarily defensible borders. To rely, therefore, on a political arrangement for the defense of Israel is simply unrealistic if defensible borders are not maintained.”
