William Davis, Premier of Ontario, has announced that the government will not give any direct aid to Jewish and other sectarian schools. Responding to a request by the Province’s Association of Jewish Day Schools for government aid for the secular portion of their teaching program, Davis stated: “To accept such a philosophy (of the direct and necessary link between religion and education) and to foster it, the government would be obliged to create an entire educational system which would be, at the very least, a dual one…” The Liberal and New Democrat parties have pledged support to Catholic schools.
