Three members of “Siah, ” an Israeli New Left organization, got stiff fines from a Jerusalem court today for daubing walls in the central part of town. They were also given suspended jail sentences of ten weeks to three months. The fines ranged from $240 to $300. The defendants, Ruth Elraz, 39, Mordechai Bassuk, 27 and Gerard Fulber, 22, pleaded guilty to painting the slogan “Long live freedom of speech” on the walls. They said they did it after police refused them a permit to demonstrate. The three were arrested last Aug. 29 after a passerby saw them in the act and summoned police. Two other persons arrested on the same charge were acquitted.
