Giora Neumann, a member of Matzpen, a splinter Marxist anti-Zionist organization, has been given a third 35-day sentence for refusing Army service in the administered territories. His claim to conscientious objection was rejected. Another Matzpen member, Arye Buber, also received a 35-day term for a similar refusal to serve. Matzpen has been canvassing public opinion through advertisements and handbills, but so far with no results. Matzpen identifies closely with the views of Nayef Hawwatmeh, leader of the extremist Popular Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
