For the first time in Israel’s history, world Jewry is being asked to send not only money or immigrants but technical know-how, Jack D. Weiler, chairman of the Jewish Agency’s housing committee, said today. The American realtor addressed an international conference of housing experts meeting here this week to seek ways to alleviate Israel’s severe housing shortage. Weiler said the essential problem was how to build better, faster and cheaper. He noted that the housing construction lag is creating social problems.
The conference was also addressed by Jewish Agency Chairman Louis A, Pincus who said solution of the housing problem was urgent for social reasons. He said a greater availability of reasonably priced housing would ease the tension between the settled population and new immigrants for whom housing is provided irrespective of the former’s needs.
