Defense Minister Moshe Dayan said here last night that under current circumstances Israel must chose between security and conciliation with the Arab states.
Dayan, who was speaking at the Labor Party council, said that he does not believe a single Arab state “not even Jordan” really wants a real and true peace with Israel. He warned that the choice Israel has to face was “between a piece of paper with Arab assurances and controlling Sharmel Sheikh and the navigation in the Straits of Tiran.”
The Minister said that all those who claim that Israel can obtain peace with the Arabs while controlling the territories “is either stupid or a hypocrite.” Dayan also said that he doubted the sincerity of Bourguiba’s offer to meet an Israeli leader.
