The Budapest Rabbinical Institute, the only rabbinical school left in Eastern Europe, opened its new school year Monday with 20 registered students, two from the Soviet Union. The school’s principal, Chief Rabbi Sandor Scheiber, told the institute’s opening session that its “very unique character makes it mandatory for us to keep alive Jewish traditions and Jewish religion in this part of the world.”
