The delectable delicacies will delight the throngs and the calorie count will climb when the first Johannesburg kosher food fair opens next month at the Simon Kuper Hall. According to Manny Dworcan, organizer of the fair, it promises to be the biggest fun happening in the Jewish community for a long time.
The largest display of kosher food ever assembled under one roof will be supplied by 40 companies. There will be an ultra-modern kitchen, demonstrations of cooking and handy hints for the kosher housewife on the preparation of traditional dishes and many regular dishes “in a kosher way.”
All of this will be held against a background of the “Jewish Sound,” consisting of music, interviews and other entertainment. For youngsters, the fair will feature puppet shows, fireworks and a demonstration of cows being milked. The South African Army is sending a mobile kitchen to demonstrate how kosher meals are prepared for those Jewish recruits who are observant.
The kosher food fair will be opened officially Nov. 12 by Chief Rabbi B. M. Casper and will continue through Nov. 18.
