Premier Menachem Begin of Israel will be the featured speaker at the 50th anniversary General Assembly of the Council of Jewish Federations scheduled for Saturday evening, November 13 at the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles, Calif., it was announced here by the CJF. More than 3,000 delegates representing the 200-member Federations of the Council will be attending the assembly November 10-14.
Leon Dulzin, chairman of the Jewish Agency and World Zionist Organization Executives, will be the speaker at the Oneg Shabbat the afternoon of November 13, it was announced. His topic will be “Israel-Diaspora Relations.”
The theme of this year’s meetings — “The Next 50 Years: Beginning to Meet the Challenges” — will focus on the great variety of issues confronting North American Jewish communities Official action on resolutions dealing with a number of subjects will receive the attention of the delegates.
Plenary sessions, forums and over 100 workshops will take place beginning Wednesday afternoon November 10, with an address at the opening plenary by CJF president Martin Citrin of Detroit, on “Insuring the Commitment of the Next Generation.”
On the following morning, Rabbi Harold Schulweis of Los Angeles, the General Assembly Scholor-in-Residence, will discuss “The Role and Responsibility of Federations in Insuring the Commitment of the Next Generation.”
Subjects to be covered at forums during the assembly include: “A Global Perspective of Jews Around the World: Threats and Opportunities”; “Sephardic Jewry: Past and Future”; “Soviet Jewish Advocacy”; “Human Services in an Era of Diminishing Governmental Programs”; “Peace in the Middle East”; and “Implications of the November Elections for Jewish Concerns.”
