The State Department asserted that it does not anticipate any change in the “traditional, close” relationship between the United States and Israel regardless of which party emerges as the winner of the Knesset elections held yesterday in Israel. The election in Israel “has reaffirmed the value of a democratic society and its institutions, ” the Depart- ment said in a statement released yesterday and repeated today. “While we still await complete election results, we are certain there will be no change in the traditional, close cooperation which has existed between the governments and people of the United States and Israel.

“We look forward to working with the next government of Israel, regardless of which party emerges victorious at the polls.”
