The cost-of-living index rose by a low 0.1 percent in July, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported Monday.

The cost-of-living increase was kept low by a 5 percent seasonal drop in the price of fruit and vegetables.

The low figure was hailed by the Treasury, the Histadrut and the Employers Association, all of whom had anticipated a cost-of-living increase of 0.3 to 0.5 percent for the month of July.

The annual rate of Israel’s inflation is expected to be about 16 percent this year.
