The European Community is actively shoring up its relations with the Arab world while it remains aligned with the United States in opposition to Iraq’s aggression against Kuwait.

This became apparent at a session here last Thursday of the European Parliament, the E.C.’s legislative body, when an invitation was issued to all Arab League member states except Iraq to attend a meeting with E.C. ministers in Venice from Oct. 7 to 8.

The Palestine Liberation Organization was also invited.

A resolution adopted by a large majority of the 518-member Parliament emphasized that “the Euro-Arab dialogue could contribute, after the re-establishment of the independence of Kuwait, to an equitable resolution of the Middle East problems in general.”

The resolution mentioned “in particular the restoration of full sovereignty and territorial integrity for Lebanon, the establishment of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and of the State of Israel in keeping with the principles of the United Nations.”
