Three Druse brides in elaborate white gowns crossed the Israeli-Syrian border at Kuneitra this week to marry bridegrooms living on the Golan Heights.

From both sides of the cease-fire lines, hundreds of Druse danced and cheered as the couples married in the U.N. zone.

Four more brides were expected to cross into the Golan to marry their future husbands, whom they met via videotapes, Israel Radio reported.

The crossings were arranged by the International Committee of the Red Cross. The last time such arrangements were made was in 1993, the organization said in a statement.

The Druse live in Israel, Syria and Lebanon.
