U.S. Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.) placed legislation aimed at providing greater protections for religious practice on a short list of bills to be considered this year by the Senate. The Religious Liberty Protection Act, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives earlier this year, is being backed by a wide array of religious groups.
