Two Israeli doctors nominated chicken soup for the World Health Organization’s list of essential drugs. The two physicians used references to the medical writings of Maimonides and the Talmud, as well as a Web site address with chicken soup recipes and a medical journal article in which the staple of Ashkenazi Jews was cited for increasing “nasal mucous velocity.” But they admitted that there was no “significantly statistical evidence” to support their claim.
