Residents of Kensington, Md., celebrated a secular tree-lighting with many Santa Clauses. The town council decided in October to change the tree-lighting ceremony into a more patriotic salute to the victims and heroes of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The event was intended to be more secular following appeals from some of Kensington’s Jewish residents that a Chanukah menorah be included in the town’s public holiday display.
